The Toccoa-Stephens County Airport, located on 169 acres to the east of downtown Toccoa, is managed by the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport Authority (TSCAA). The Authority has five members, three of whom are appointed by the city and county on a ratating basis. The other two postitions are automatically filled by the mayor of Toccoa and the Stephens County Commission chairman.
The airport got its start in the early 1950s when industrilist and aviation buff R.G. LeTourneau built two runways for his own personal use. In 1961, LeTourneau turned the runways over to the city and county, who named the field in his honor.
During the past two years, the TSCCA has upgraded R.G. LeTourneau Field at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport-expanding the main runway to 5,000 feet by 100 feet, adding new state-of-the-art lighting system and resurfacing the runways and taxiways. Additionally, the airport now boasts an AWOS 3 P weather reporting system that is crucial for instrument approaches to the airport. New corporate hangers and T-hangers are also being added to the complex.
A new 6,000 square-foot terminal will be built in 2008, funded by SPLOST V funds. The terminal will include offices for the TSCAA and the Stephens County Development Authority.
