News from the Archives: McClure, Ramsay, Dickerson, & Escoe
History. It is what sculpts us, what we learn from, the fabric of the stories we tell. Little did we know that today our interview with John Dickerson at McClure, Ramsay, Dickerson, & Escoe would be a Toccoa Historians dream.
Stephens County was founded on August 18, 1905 and the firm was started in 1907 by Harvard Graduate, Claude Bond. Today we know this firm as McClure, Ramsay, Dickerson, & Escoe, LLP. MRDE has had many long-term employees, two faithfully served over 50 years each. The firm added Partner, Austin L. Perry in 2012 and more recently associates, Jay Doss and Maley Whitlock.
John Dickerson has been with the firm since 1974 and according to his team is the walking encyclopedia. John loves serving Toccoa-Stephens County. His favorite part of doing business here is the long-standing relationships he has made. For all of the Toccoa Historians, you would have loved a front row seat for some of the historical documents we were able to photograph.
The above document on the left is from 1785 and Dickerson believes it is the original deed for Travelers Rest before the Constitution was ratified. The other photographed document was sealed with a wooden seal in 1928. This was an original land grant. Not photographed were deeds signed by Ty Cobb, American Major League Baseball outfielder. A fun fact our history buffs may not know, Mr. McClure and Ty Cobb played baseball together.
